Accountant in Police custody over 2billion ‘Chop Chop’ assembly money

Information Silver news indicates that, Mr. Oppong Richard, an accountant working with the Amansie Central District Assembly has been picked up by the Ashanti Regional Crime Department of the Ghana Police Service over misappropriation of fund.

Confirming the incident to newsmen today, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Asamoah Boateng said Oppong Richard faked the signatures of the DFO and the Coordinating Director of the Assembly to withdraw an amount of GHc220, 500.00 which is equivalent to 2.205billion in the old currency from the assembly’s account.

He several efforts made to reach out Oppong to authenticate the story proved futile but was later lured by the DCE himself to come to his office in order to correct an amount of money for MoMo transaction.

“He deals in mobile money business so I called him myself that I want him to send money to a colleague for me. He came to my office and subsequently called the police for his arrest”, the DCE, Hon. Asamoah Boateng told the press today.

He’s now in the regional police custody for further interrogation.


Some assembly members in the area have been expressing their grievances over the issue. According to them it is very sad for a single person to devoir an amount of money which can be used to cater for thousands of residents and development of the constituency.
