85% of disables acquired it on Earth – Research by GFD

The Ghana Federation of Disability Organisation (GFD) has made a humble appeal to the government to always involve them in persons whenever there's a risen policy about them. They said this during a presentation of key findings on a research conducted on the impact of covid-19 on persons living with disability.

Mr. Christopher Agbega, Covid-19 Project officer for the GFD, speaking in an interview with Nana Peprah said thorough findings on impact of covid-19 on persons living with disability revealed how their situations have been worsening.

According to him the research angled on 'before and after" covid-19 situations of persons living with disability in Accra and Kumasi. Meaning, the impact of covid-19 on persons living with disability has really been bad. Talking about the government's relief items and loans for instance, Mr. Agbega revealed that 93% of persons living with disability couldn't benefit due to the fact that most of them didn't get the information.

Mr. Kwame Mensah, Programs manager for the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisation also pleaded with all Ghanaians to show much concern about disability issues since anyone can be a victim at any point in time.

According to him, statistics show that most disabled persons in whooping of 85% acquired them on earth, thus either through accident, fracture, burns etc. He said only 15% were born with it.

Lastly, National President for the Persons living with disability, Mr. Alfred Tabi Amponsah revealed that the GFD is made up 9 different organisations and it is very sad that only few are sometimes brought into the mind of the government.
