NPP MP OK’s reassessment of Agyapa Royalties Deal by Parliament
Government’s spokesperson on Finance and a Member of the Parliament Committee on Finance has said the reassessment of the Agyapa Royalties Deal by Ghana’s parliament is in the right direction. According to him, the gesture simply justifies the incorruptible nature of the President of the Republic and Finance Minister, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo and Hon. Ken Ofori Atta respectively.
President Akufo-Addo instructed the Finance Minister
Ken Ofori-Atta, to in the interest of transparency and accountability to the
Ghanaian people, the Agreements supporting the transaction that were submitted
to Parliament, and approved by the House, should be resubmitted
to Parliament for the approval process to start all over again. The
instruction by the president followed the detection of some anomalies in the
deal by the Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu.
The Special Prosecutor in his corruption risk assessment report to President
Akufo-Addo said, “…the process of the selection of the transaction advisor(s)
disclosed a reasonable suspicion of bid-rigging and corruption activity
including the potential for illicit financial flows and money laundering…”
Meanwhile the National Democratic Congress is wondering why the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta and his deputy, Charles Adu Boahen have not been charged for breaching procurement laws.
But reacting to the development on Silver News, Hon. Daniel Okyem Aboagye rubbished the NDC’s claim that the deal smells corruption hence President’s order to re-submit the deal to parliament. According to the Bantama MP, the move shows the transparent nature of the government and its officials.
