GREENHOUSE FARMING STUDENTS TO BE TAKEN TO ISRAEL FOR FURTHER TRAINING

Greenhouse farming is a unique farm practice of growing crops indoors under favorable conditions without relying on natural weather or rain water.

The Government of Ghana under the Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) programme has adopted this modern technology in vegetable farming and in partnership with Agri-Top Ltd from Israel has established Greenhouse facilities at Dawenya in the Greater Accra Region, Bawjiase in the Central Region and the latest being the one at Akumadan in the Offinso North district of Ashanti region which was commissioned by President Nana Akuffo-Addo in January 2019.

The centre is expanding the greenhouse farming technology through training Ghanaian graduates or youths to create employment and also produce quality vegetables like tomatoes, cucumber, pepper and water melons for the Ghanaian and export markets and in view of this the 3rd batch of 30 students have been received to receive a 3-month training at the Akumadan Center.

Speaking in an interview with Asta Fm's Nana Kwadwo Adu during the ceremony to welcome the trainees,
award winning DCE for Offinso North Hon. David Kwasi Asare Boakye affectionately called “Adwumawura” disclosed that after the training the students will be taken to Israel for further studies then return to Ghana to establish their own agribusinesses and train others.

He used the opportunity to commend the MP for Offinso North Hon. Augustine Collins Ntim for bringing such a project to Akumadan which would soon be extended to individual farmers to also practice the greenhouse system of farming in order to serve as raw material base for the processing factory that would soon be set up in the district under 1D1F programme.
