SO FAR SO GOOD: NO CONTAMINATED FISH ON THE MARKET-FDA;s ISAAC AVIAH ASSURES

Mr. Isaac AVIAH, Senior Regulatory Officer at the Food and Drugs Authority, Ashanti Region has allayed the fears that, the fish washed ashore are not on the market.According to him, these incidents are bound to happening periodically but this one seems massive thus causing fear and panic in some fish eaters. A number of dolphins were also washed ashore in the Western Region on April 4, 2021. Authorities estimate that about 120 dolphins were affected. Subsequently, the officers from the Fish Health Unit and the Scientific Survey Division of the Fisheries Commission were dispatched to the scenes to take samples for testing.

Whilst the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has cautioned the citizenry not to consume the fish, indicating that they are “unwholesome”.

In a one on one interview in the studios of Silver FM, the Senior Regulatory Officer at FDA entreated Ghanaians to ignore rumours of poisonous fish on the market as FDA is working rigorously from the ground to prevent any intrusion of contaminated fish and all kinds of items regulated under FDA.

The interview was granted by Nana Kwabena Ampratwum.
