KUMASI FLOOD: OVER 300 BUILDINGS BUILT ON WATERLOGGED AREAS-MINISTER REVEALS
There are over Three Hundred (300) structures built on waterlogged areas in Kumasi causing flood in the Metropolis.
This was disclosed by the Works and Housing Minister, Hon. Asenso Boakye in an interview with Silver FM's *FILASCO DEGENERAL* on the wake of the recent floodings in the Ashanti Region specially Kumasi Metropolitan.
According to the Bantama Member of Parliament (MP), KMA confered in him that, they've counted not less than the aforementioned figures of buildings which have been built in waterlogged and wetlands.
He said this act is the main cause of regular flooding in the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly.
Places like Atafoa, Sawaba, Asawase, Santasi Apre, Bantama Market, including other areas such as Asafo Market, Kejetia Redeveloped Market etc. etc. flooded in the recent rains causing destruction of Properties and taking lives.
About Seven (7) lives have been lost in the Ashanti Region over the flood.
This has ignited the Minister to order the MMDCEs to as a matter of urgency demolish all structures in the water lanes and pave way for water flow in the drain channels.
