LABOUR UNREST: NATIONAL LABOUR COMMISSION ARE NOT RELIABLE*
National Labour Commission (NLC), the body mandated to address concerns between labour unions and the government.
The core functions of the National Labour Commission are: • To facilitate the settlement of industrial disputes.
It has been established under Section 135 of the Labour Act 2003, (Act 651) to facilitate and settle industrial disputes.
The Commission is an independent body which adjudicates labour disputes and promotes conducive industrial environment for employment sustainability and growth.
But according to the various Labour Unions, the NLC has failed to execute their mandate as expected.
Dr. Michael Brigandi is the President of the Technical University Teachers Association of Ghana (TUTAG), commenting on their strike action commenced today amidst NLC directive, he said they cannot rely solely on NLC thereby proceeding on their strike.
He said, their condition of services, their method of promotion, the welfare of their pensioners etc. are poorly managed and the disrespectful nature of NLC towards them, TUTAG over their strike is appauling.
Dr.Brigandi said, they wrote to National Commission on Friday 11, June, 2021 over their intended strike action but failed to respond to them.
He added that, the NLC sadly copied draft of their statement from social media and write to them for a meeting.
This the members of the describe as disrespect and a failed duty.
