POLICE OFFICER PEPPER-SPRAYS CHURCH MEMBERS

Police Officer Pepper-Sprays Church Members A police Officer, Victor Kwakye has pepper-sprayed the Church Members of the Living Way Assemblies of God Church at Akyease-Wansamire in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of the Ashanti Region over noise making. We have a body called Noise Control Department which is mandated to regulate between sound nuisance to the ear or not. But a police officer trained to maintain peace and harmony took the law into his hand, went straight into the church building and sprayed them with pepper. According to the Head Pastor of the Church, Pastor Joseph Gyamfi, the church service was in session and from nowhere the police officer entered the church creating confusion. He said they tried to calm the peace ambassador (police officer) but to no avail. “He turned his back to us pretended to leaving the place but unfortunately, he brought out the pepper spray from his pocket at our ignorance and sprayed us. Infact, we’re suffering with our vision now”, Pastor Joseph Gyamfi told Nana Ampratwum on Silver FM. Pepper spray is legally sold in Ghana – not retail but on order only. Furthermore, pepper spray can be difficult to use effectively and can provoke increased violence.
