VERY SAD: 64 YEARS OLD DESTITUTE HOME HAS SEEN NO IMPROVEMENT-REPORT

BEKWAI CENTRAL DESTITUE INFIRMARY IN NEED OF REHABILITATION

The Asante-Bekwai Central Destitute Infirmary, which currently serves huge number of destitute persons, has for over Sixty (60) years seen no renovation and has been struggling with infrastructure development.

The infirmary which is the only place in the Ashanti region to cater for the aged is in immediate need of renovation because it is appalling to see the condition these aged are in.

The inmates are at the mercy of corporate and individual sponsorship for survival since the government support is inadequate.

SilverFM visit to the place saw no improvement.

The infirmary caters for destitute people in the society, thus, those whose relatives cannot be traced in the society. The building and the facilities at the home have deteriorated.

Some of the roofs on the buildings have riped off leading to leakages in the rooms of the inmates. this situation is terrible whenever it rains because the inmates have to adjust themselves in some corner to hide from the rains.

Though, there are enough rooms for inmates, facilities to make it a complete room is a major problem. The road leading to the infirmary is in bad state which sometimes discourages donors from reaching out to inmates from time to time.

Giving a vivid account about the challenges of the home, SILVER FM'S JOURNALIST, FILASCO DEGENERAL who visited the place told NANA AMPRATWUM on the station's MORNING SHOW DUBBED OMANBAPA that, feeding of inmates is a major challenge and facilities at the home are deteriorating because of limited government support.

For over 21 years down the line, the funding of the infirmary has been very poor. And due to the financial difficulties, inmates are being fed once and twice instead of the normal three times daily.

They have no health facility to treat sick destitues therefore making it difficult carry sick persons from the place to Bekwai government hospital at the expense of the authorities.

No vehicle has been given to Infirmary, staffs have to transport or carry sick person their own to seek for treatment.

They are calling on the government and benevolent organizations and individuals to assist the home for its operations especially to help complete their ongoing clinic for them.
