WE CREATE OUR OWN THIEVES - MP admits
Even though corruption in Ghana is relatively low when compared to other countries in Africa, businesses frequently quote corruption as an obstacle for doing business in the country. Corruption occurs often in locally funded contracts, companies are subject to bribes when operating in rural areas.
It's gradually becoming the backbone of the country, Ghana.
People are calling for mop up in various sectors and prosecuting of corrupt officials in the country as a stepping stone to eliminating the canker.
Touching on the roots of the menace on Silver FM, Hon. Daniel Okyem Aboagye, Former Bantama MP shockingly unearthed that, Ghana creates it's own thieves.
He admitted that, the manner in which Honourable Members get to parliament, bleeds and inculcates corruption in them.
He told Nana Ampratwum on the Omanbapa Morning Show that, the struggling of MPs paying to get to parliament is the root cause of corruption in Ghana.
"Some Parliamentary candidates ahead of election go for loans to pay their way through. If he/she wins, what do you expects him/her to do. He will find a way to cover his debt", he revealed.
He vyed for a collective efforts to fighting corruption.
"If the people like the poling station executives who have the power to elect especially Members of Parliament quench milking money from the process, we can at least expunge higher percentage of corruption else we will have a long way to go", he added.
