A/R: WE'RE RUNNING THE DEPARTMENT WITH ONLY ONE VEHICLE-RENT MANAGER

It came to light by the Chief Rent Manager, Twum Ampofo that, the Rent Control Department has only 2 vehicles for their work nationwide.
He said this is despite the fact that the department has 53 offices nationwide with officers tasked to discharge their mandate.

Mr. Ampofo disclosed this when the Minister for Works and Housing paid a working visit to the Rent Control Department in Accra.

Due to this, a visit was made to the Ashanti Regional Rent Control Department to find out how their office is been runned.

A rent Manager, Mr. Asare Osei Pinsan revealed that, the Department is crying about neglect by government.

Mr. Asare said that the current logistical challenges at the department are suffocating it in discharging its responsibilities.

The agency, under the Rent Act, 1963 (Act 220) is to work cooperatively with property owners (landlords) and tenants to promote optimum peaceful co-existence through education, reconciliation while enforcing compliance to rent regulations.

But to Pinsan, the lack of basic logistics is hindering the smooth running of the Department.

He said as he speaks, the whole region has only a single vehicle which was to be used by the Regional head adding that officers must walk, take commercial vehicle of ride their own vehicle if possible to perform their duty mandated by the nation with inadequate logistics.

He revealed that, since the manager of the department in the region already has his own ride, the only vehicle they have has been given to the deputy head of the department leaving the rest to their own fate to perform their tasks.

Mr. Asare Pinsan, thus is appealing for support.

Meanwhile Government has begun work to digitise Rent Control Department operations.

The operations of the Rent Control Department will soon be digitised to eliminate the manual process and improve the efficiency of the department.

To achieve this, government committee made up of officials of the Ministry of Works and Housing and the Ministry of Communications have begun the implementation of the digitisation plan for the department.

Adding his word to this, Osei Pinsan said it is a good step and will help the Department if implement.

"It is a step in the right direction", he told Ampratwum on the Omanbapa Morning Show on Silver FM.
