SHIPPING LINES INCREASED OVER 200%-GUTA CRIES
Mr. Benjamin Yeboah, the National Welfare Officer of Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) has stated that, shipping lines in the country have been increased strangely without anyone's comprehension.
According to him, the shipping lines have shoot up to over 200% saying the development is disturbing the work of members of GUTA.
He disclosed that goods which were previously cleared at a fee of $4,000 are now clearing at $14,000 which is too whooping an amount to accept.
He said the Association has appealed to the President via the Council of State to call for some reduction at the Port on the shipping lines.
He continued that, failure on the part of the Government to see to it that the authorities in charge at the Port decrease it will compel GUTA and Ghana Institute of Freight Forwarders (GIFF) to also increase the price of goods.
He added that, at the end of the day, the consumer will be the victim. The citizens will suffer.
"Nana Ampratwum, the Association has on several occasions complained bitterly about this development at the Port through the help of the media and has officially informed Government through the Council of State (CS) for the President to do something about it but to no avail".
The Government and the authorities at the Port have turned deaf ears into our concerns and importers are bleeding in.
"Now our hands are tied and GUTA, GIFF will also have no option than to push the cost on the citizens by increasing prices of goods in the country", Mr. Ben was speaking on the Omanbapa Morning Show on Silver FM.
