PRICE OF FUEL TO GO UP BY SATURDAY-COPEC's HEAD OF RESEARCH
The Head of Research at the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) has disclosed that, Ghanaians should expect fuel increment God willing tomorrow.
According to Mr. Benjamin Nsiah, by 16th of October, 2021, fuel price will move up.
The Head of Research at COPEC, Mr. Nsiah opined that, per their projections base on the International Market Pricing and Negotiating Currency, fuel will be increased by 30pesewas across board.
He elaborated that Goil, Shell, Total Petroleum will all increased their fuel prices by 30pesewas on Saturday, 16 October, 2021.
Meanwhile, the Private Road Transport Commercial Operators Union together with the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) have expressed their disappointment in government for not putting in place any mitigating or stabilization measures to curtail the hikes in fuel and petroleum products in the country.
According to the peeved unions, the move is a half-hearted attitude on the part of government not to promote the welfare and income of persons in the commercial transport business though commercial transport operators are the major consumers of petroleum and for that matter contributes mostly to the clearance of legacy debts in the energy sector through the Energy Sector Levy Act 2015 (Act 899) to Energy Sector Levy Act 2021 (Act 1064).
But reacting to this on Silver FM's Omanbapa Morning Show, Benjamin Nsiah said, the three bodies, Government, GPRTU and Commercial Transport Operators respectively should go to the negotiating table and rectify their differences amicably without provocation.
He said Government at some point was right to considering the welfare of the consumers whiles the operators are also right for demanding for their right to stable their operation.
However, the transport operators have threatened to increase transport fares by 20% if government fails to address their grievances as soon as possible.
