Sacking Nigerians means burying our Market-Business Mogul

CEO OF OMAN BERLYN-SULE BAAH BITEE
One of the Magnates in the field of Ghana business has called on the general public especially magazine workers to smoke peace pipe with Nigerians doing business in the country.

Sule Baah Bitee is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of OMAN BERLYN Enterprise in Kumasi.

Nigerian-owned shops at Suame in Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region, were ransacked by raucous Ghanaian youths in the early hours of Wednesday, 19 June, 2019.

The vandalisation of the shops was to register their displeasure against a decision by the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) to reopen closed Nigerian retail shops.

This led to a near-clash between the Nigerians and the Ghanaians.
The Nigerians closed their shops temporarily on Friday, 14 June 2019, over what they described as attacks from their Ghanaian counterparts.

The Ghanaian traders argue that they are only enforcing the laws of Ghana which bar foreigners from engaging in the retail sub-sector, a preserve of Ghanaians.

The rampaging youth, who wore red bands and attires, also lit car tyres as part of their protest.

The Ghanaians also expressed anger about the kidnapping scourge in the country which involves Nigerian suspects.

They have, therefore, resolved and threatened to deal with the Nigerians since the authorities have not been able to intervene in the matter.

Government of Ghana has condemned the attacks.
Mr. Oppong Nkrumah, the Information Minister told the press on Wednesday, 19 June 2019, that if the Nigerians have violated the trade laws of Ghana, the appropriate authorities are the ones to deal with them instead of their Ghanaian counterparts taking the law into their own hands.

The power to deal with the situation, he said, does not lie in the hands of the citizens, hence the action was wrong, Mr. Oppong Nkrumah said.

Commenting on the issue, the CEO of OMAN BERLYN ENTERPRISE, Mr. Sule Baah Bitee expressed regret about what he described as unwarranted and uncalled for on the part of his Ghanaian counterparts in the business that launched the attack on Nigerians.

According to him, the effort of Nigerians on our market stabilizes the economy in some ways therefore calling for their dismissal is not in good taste.

To him, sacking them from our market centers is like collapsing businesses in Ghana.

He said, “Nigerians play major role in booming trading in the country. We should allow them on the market without fear of intimidation”.
Mr. Baah cited an example which Nigerians provide them (Ghana Business men) with goods that local importers do not have.

“Sacking them means we want to bury our market”.
He has therefore called on the powers that be to step foot on the matter to settle it amicably without provocation.
