CLOSURE OF PARLIAMENT; RESIDENTS COMMEND SPEAKER
A section of the residents in Kumasi Metropolis of the Ashanti Region have commended the directive of the Speaker of parliament, Hon. Alban Bagbin for shutting down parliament for three(3) weeks over the increase COVID 19 cases in the country.
Ghana’s Parliament has been shut down for three weeks, starting from today, Wednesday, 10 February to Tuesday, 2 March 2021, as COVID-19 cases surge in the house.
So far, 17 MPs and 151 parliamentary staff have tested positive for the virus.
This has compelled the house led by the Speaker to halt parliamentary tasks for three weeks.
Meanwhile, the Appointment Committee has commenced their work today, February 10,2021.
Two nominees, the Ministers Designate for National Security and Health, Hon. Albert Kan Dapaah and Hon. Kwaku Agyemang Manu respectively opened the vetting box.
On this note, Fox FM's reporter Ekuoba Gyasi hit the streets of the Ashanti Region's capital, Kumasi to solicit views of residents about the decision for parliament to be closed down over COVID upsurge.
They explained that ,it's in the right direction adding that if care is not taking, the rest of the members of the house will also be infected which will be disastrous for the nation.
" Covid 19 is real , there were speculation that it's not real. Now people are seriously wearing the mask and I think now people have the believe that Covid 19 is real", resident told Ekuoba Gyasi.
Another Resident explained that, the three weeks break will help the infected persons to recover on time for parliamentary services to kickstart.
"The three weeks break is serving as the isolation period for the MPs hence the need for the Speaker to take that action", he said.
