Traders stranded as parts of Afia Kobi Market Demolished
Section of the traders at the Afia Kobi Market popularly known as Abinkyi Market in the Kumasi Metropolis of the Ashanti Region have been left stranded following the demolishing of some portion of the market.
Traders dealing mainly in second hand cloths lamented that, they were evicted without any notice.
Speaking to Silver FM's reporter, Akwadaa Nyame, the frustrated traders accused (KMA) for masterminding the demolishing without their knowledge.
According to them, Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi wants the downfall of Afia Kobi Market known as Abinkyi Market hence sabotaging its activities.
They added that, Regional Minister designate, Hon. Osei Mensah promised them that under no circumstance would they be evicted even if some traders from Central Market are to be relocated to the place.
They noted that, Osei Assibey Antwi has failed to implement that and has also failed to protect the traders at the Afia Kobi market.
But in a quick reaction for the Office of the Kumasi Mayor, the Public Relations Director of the Assembly, Ms. Henrietta Aboagye told Nana Ampratwum on Silver FM's Omanbapa Morning show that, no permanent trader has been evicted from the Afia Kobi Market.
Touching on the concerns of the aggrieved traders, Ms. Aboagye said, those are the traders whom were given places in the market to trade but left the market to roadside complaining low patronage.
He added that, is part of the Assembly's regulation to sanction such traders by not given them place to trade in the market they abandoned.
