Assembly members deny extortion of money over metres
Former Assembly members in the Juaben Municipality of the Ashanti region have denied extorting monies from the residents in the bid to secure them some electricity metres.
Some of the residents accused these former Assembly members for taking monies from them to give the metres in 2017 but failed to deliver the metres.
According to some of the residents, all efforts to retrieve their monies have proved futile.
But some of the then Assembly members speaking to Silver fm’s reporter, Akwadaa Nyame denied extorting monies from them.
Former Assembly member for Daaban Abesim electoral area, Hon. Kwadwo Sarpong stated that, Electricity Company of Ghana during 2017 decided to give some metres to the Assembly members to distribute in their electoral areas.
According to him, they had already given the monies to the authorities but they had failed to deliver them the metres for them to distribute it.
He added that, he lost the Assembly elections due to the failure to secure them the metres.
Former Assembly member for Asokore Zongo, Hon. Gari Ibrahim revealed that, they had been working very hard since 2017 to secure them the metres.
He lamented that, he had been insulted a lot by the people within his electoral area.
