Fish washed ashore: A/R FDA allays fear on the market

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) in the Ashanti Region has stated authoritatively that, there is no cause for alarm on the market over the fishes washed ashore.

According to the authority, the situation is under control and is urging people in the region to patrol on the market to buy their preferred aqua meats without fear.

A lot of dead fish were washed ashore on April 2, 2021, at the Osu Castle beach.

A number of dolphins were also washed ashore in the Western Region on April 4, 2021. Authorities estimate that about 120 dolphins were affected.

Subsequently, the officers from the Fish Health Unit and the Scientific Survey Division of the Fisheries Commission were dispatched to the scenes to take samples for testing.

Whilst the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has cautioned the citizenry not to consume the fish, indicating that they are “unwholesome”.

Commenting on the issue on Omanbapa Morning Show, Silver FM, the Regional Public Relations Officer(PRO) of Food and Drugs Authority, Daniel Geraldo explained to the host, Nana Ampratwum that, strict measures have been put in place to protect citizenry and prevent the ashore fishes onto the market.

According to him, officers of FDA are on grounds and the situation is under control adding that, “there are no such fishes on the market specifically in the Ashanti Region”.
