Lack of Placenta Pit Compels women to Take home their placenta after Delivery

Lack of Placenta Pit Compels women to Take home their placenta after Delivery Women are forced to take their placentas home after delivery at Tano-Kwaemu Chip-Compound in the Offinso North District of the Ashanti Region over lack of facility. The placenta is a large organ that develops during pregnancy. It is attached to the wall of the uterus, usually at the top or side. The umbilical cord connects the placenta to your baby. Blood from the mother passes through the placenta, filtering oxygen, glucose and other nutrients to your baby via the umbilical cord. According to the Midwife in the facility, Madam Priscilla Osei, the health center lacks placenta pit which makes it impossible for the facility deposit it. “After delivery, I wrap the placenta (akyirade3) nicely in a polythene bag and hand over to them to go and dispose it. They can choose to bury it in their farm by digging deep hole or any preferred place but I always advices them to avoid contact”, Mrs. Osei added. Speaking on Silver FM’s Omanbapa Morning Show, the midwife disclosed to the host of the program, Nana Ampratwum that, they also lack toilet and bathroom for patients therefore they she has no option as a midwife to discharge them immediately after delivery to go home so they can take their bath. She said these challenges are obstacle to the smooth running of the center. She’s therefore pleading to the powers that be to as a matter of urgency come to their aid.
