Senior Rent Manager has revealed that, house owners have no right to charge rent fees. According to the rent officer, RCD is the mandated department to decide rent fees for landlords.

Rent Control Department works co-operatively with landlords and tenants to promote optimum peaceful co-existence through education and reconciliation.

RCD does all these while also providing on rent matters in compliance with the Rent Act 220.

But speaking on the Omanbapa Morning Show on Silver FM today, the Senior Rent Manager in the Ashanti Region, Mr. Paul Kofi Appiah highlighted one of their duties as rent fee- determiners.

He said as far as R's act 220 exist, land lord has no right to tell a tenant what to pay for a house/room he/she intends renting.

When asked about why the issue is different in this country from time imemorial, Mr. Appiah said the yet to be passed Rent Act will instill more discipline in the law and gives more power to RCD to bite.

"My brother let me tell you something, the rent law prohibits landlords to decide rent fees for tenant but because of its flexibility to bite, we are seeing otherwise".

"But I can assure you that, the new rent law in the pipeline will address all these issues and rent Control will tell landlords what to collect from tenants as rent fee per the act", Mr. Appiah told the host of the show, Nana Ampratwum.

He was quick to elaborate that, there is no Goodwill allowance in renting adding that rent tax will be introduced soon.

This rent tax as he stressed will help government generate revenue from renting furthering that landlords will deduct percentage of their rent fee to settle the rent tax to government.
